A few things you may have missed
In the summer of 2022 I really made inroads into my 100 Famous Mountains of Yamagata project. I can’t believe all of the stories I uncovered (last week’s was particularly surprising for me). I have uncovered abandoned ski fields complete with freaky forests, a massive swamp monster, ‘Mother Hunter Mountain’, a mountain named after Buddha’s mother (unrelated), a former volcano that could have been as tall as Fuji had it not erupted, and a whole lot of other intriguing locations.
