Kia ora Koutou, Tim Bunting Kiwi Yamabushi here bringing you concepts, life advice, and hiking guides straight from the mountains of Japan.
Earlier in September I had the pleasure of talking with Jayne and Catherine from Jandals in Japan. For the uninitiated, jandals are what us Kiwis call beach sandals, flip flops, or thongs as the Aussies say. Jandals is actually a combination of ‘Japanese’ and ‘sandals’ (no joke!).
Needless to say, we Kiwis are ahead of our time.
Talking about Kiwis ahead of their time, Jayne and Catherine have one of my favourite podcasts, connecting two things I love dearly, Japan and jandals, and doing it in style.
Even if you don’t dig the NZ connection, the podcast delves deep into aspects of Japan I had zero idea about. How Zespri managed to do so well in the Land of the Rising Sun, what the Japanese rugby team coach does as soon as he arrives back in Tokyo, to name but a few insights for my fellow lovers of Japan.
Personally, it was so refreshing to hear Kiwis on the other end, and some of the questions they asked were really choice! At one stage I even ruined an article I had in the works (what’s the most useful word in Japanese? Listen to find out!). Bonus points if you can guess what I was wearing during recording!
