Some seek solace in the form of a drug, of medicine, of a psychotic. I seek solace in the form of acceptance*.
Constant acceptance. Perpetual acceptance. Ceaseless acceptance.
Acceptance. Acceptance. Acceptance.
There really is nothing else to it.
When you’re confronted with the sun’s rays striking the side of a huge mountain in the distance, it’s hard not to feel in awe. When you see one of nature’s creatures going about its daily business, it’s hard not to appreciate everything nature gives us all.
Being out in nature is one of the best things you can do. Not simply because of all the endorphins or whatever they’re called it brings, but because it’s an amazing way to learn how to accept.
No matter how hard life comes at you, if you aren’t able to accept what is, you aren’t able to move on.
That’s the hard truth.
But the good thing is, with practice it gets easier. While there are certainly some things we may never truly be able to accept, at least we can get some way towards accepting them.
We just have to allow ourselves the opportunity to do so.
*And coffee.
Oh, and by the way, I updated the Haguro-san article for you
I try to get this newsletter out every Friday JST. That didn’t happen this week, life got in the way. Sorry about that! Here’s a picture of Haguro-san in the snow to make up for it!
It’s Snow Time!
This time last year I was out on Yonetaihei-zan, a tiny peak in the Mogami region with insanely beautiful views, especially in the snow! The ending of this video was a bit unfortunate though… you’ll see what I mean!
What’s on the blog?

This week, I gave some advice for how to make everlasting friends in Japan. Some people make it out like it’s a superpower, I think there’s one extremely simple solution.
Perfection is like tomorrow. It never comes. Nor should it. On that note, despite what society teaches us, there’s no one telling us when we can and can’t get started, or finished, for that matter! And then when we’re stuck, think back to Buddha!
Lastly, my most popular post for the week (by far), was this one on why simply translating things is a waste of time. Especially for a language as far away from English as Japanese.
That’s it for this week
Let me know what you enjoyed, and what you didn’t. I’ll try and get more of the good stuff out to you.
As always, feel free to unsubscribe if this isn’t what you’re after. If it is, and you think someone else would enjoy it, please consider sharing it with them!
Ka kite ano.
Tim.
Was just talking with a psychiatrist friend of mine about acceptance via mountain instead of drugs.
