This one really made me laugh. I’m sorry to hear that your quiet sanctuary has been so shamelessly desecrated by the arrival of the lizard hordes.

Also, I still don’t fully understand how they manage to have those absurdly massive Muji stores out there. I remember being genuinely stunned by the size of the one in Tsuruoka, right in front of the local Anytime Fitness. For a moment, it felt like Muji had become the main industry of the region.

Thanks Antonio! Yes, well, I just have to find somewhere else maybe. There are only 20 or so cruise ships a year here though.

the whole of Japan is becoming these massive stores, anything smaller gets sucked up. A few hardware stores closed nearby, and I would say it’s because of the bigger places being able to be more competitive. Similar with restaurants, although maybe not so much to do with size, rather popularity, which is probably a good thing.

So far Izumo remains untainted by mass visits of lizard people. The nearest port is Sakaiminato which is some distance away so the lizard people have to be pretty dedicated to make it here. We just have lots of Japanese visitors fron places like Osaka and Fukuoka who seem unclear on the concepts of one-lane motor highways and drive on them at under the speed limit instead of 90-100 like us locals

Ugh, the worst. That’s so similar to up here, one-lane highways. Only it’s also the locals who drive so slow! I need to visit Izumo before the invasion.

Well it’s true that sometimes it’s the locals. But often its a Prius with non-local license plate.

It is a truth universally acknowledged that an old man driving a prius must be in want of remedial driving lessons

As the wife would say if she channeled Jane Austen

But yes you should come visit. I recommend flying via Haneda (or Itami) because it’s a looong drive. Just don’t come when the hordes are present - NY, GW, Obon and the Kamiaristuki (End of November usually) - though to be fair the hordes aren’t that bad, but they do drive up the price of flights, hotels and rentacars
