I was just visiting Australia (from New York City) and was shocked to see in Adelaide that stores along a long shopping strip closed at 5 or 6 in the afternoon on a Saturday. !!!!!! How un-capitalist. And their only late night during the week is Friday, when they stay open until 8. So maybe a little yoyu going on there.
On another note, how does writing for publication fit in with yoyu? Is the idea that we write so that others will read (and perhaps subscribe, for free or for cash) anti-yoyu, not accepting and not being satisfied with where we are but wanting to expand our reach to whatever corners of the world the internet will take us?
NZ is very similar. My hometown has the biggest shopping mall in the region and it’s only open late once a week. Also very un-capitalist.
My take on the second point is that, it’s whatever you feel like in the moment. Being able to write shows you have time to dedicate to it, which means you have some yoyu already. Probably the best type of yoyu is when you can do it free of obligation, and that might even be the definition of yoyu.
It really was shocking in Adelaide when the stores closed so early. We're used here to whatever-wherever (of course, NYC is the city that never sleeps, but the whole country is open late, not to mention online shopping).
I like your definition of yoyu, being free of obligation. Being retired now has lifted so much of that 'must-do' off my shoulders that it's very freeing to blow with the wind.
Interesting perspective …
Thank you! It’s hard to put into words!
