Kia ora Koutou, Tim Bunting, Kiwi Yamabushi here on the Japan you never knew you wanted to know.
It’s interesting, and frankly disparaging, the lengths YouTubers have to go to to get views.
The following is a video about Sakata, the city I live in and love to pieces. Only, you wouldn’t know that by looking at the thumbnail:
Anyone with even a slight interest in Japan would know that the buildings in this photo are from Shirakawa-go, a full six-hour drive from us here in Yamagata.
Granted, it is NOT Tokyo.
Probably the most disappointing thing about this is that Chris even admits in the video that living in Sakata was what helped him find his direction.
Oh and thinking Haguro-san was a temple...
I get it though!
“24 hours in Sakata” doesn’t have anywhere near the same ring to it!
Chris is a master video creator. We should take him at his word!
Plus, I for one am very happy that Sakata is getting any attention, let alone from a YouTuber with 3 million subs.
Like the store that patented ‘pizza crapes’
That I very unashamedly tried right before writing this.
They’re tasty, and also (somewhat) sustainable too. The lady said that if you collect 7 of these wrappers that she’d give you another pizza for free, and because of that they haven’t seen any litter.
Apparently.
And Chris’ video is hardly any better than what I felt was the best way to get attention to my new Princess Akoya video:
The Princess and the Pine Tree
“Had me in tears!”
So, if you want more content from this place, consider becoming a paid subscriber so I can make it?
Yamagata in the (other) news

Or, just read The Macau News (!?) every once in a while because apparently Yamagata Prefecture has passed a law on daily laughter!
This was news to me! Yamagata people don’t not laugh! They are a happy bunch.
A happy bunch that simply doesn’t understand my jokes.
But still.
That’s what you’re here for, right?
Disclaimer
(of sorts)
Chris is a friend of mine from the time he lived here. I’ve known him before he started his channel, and he is as loveable as he appears on screen! My claim to fame is that I met Natsuki before he did!
