Thank you for sharing your story about your connection with Japan. It is wonderful how our families can inspire us in so many different ways. And that 青空 is so pleasing to the eyes!

Thanks for your comment! It really is, I was seriously taken aback by the comment, as I said I had completely forgotten. It's great to feel loved even after the passing of a lot of time and in a completely different country at that! Autumn has the best skies!!

Ah. The Jet program. Easily one of the most impactful govt programs I have ever come across in any country. I’m not a Jet, but boy have a run into that word, and the alumni, soooooo many times in living here. I imagine if Japan never pursued such an initiative we would be just like the natives, all immediately gravitating to Tokyo and nowhere else.

Your assignment to Yamagata, and the comfort and familiarity it gave you (over time), was a gift in every sense of the word.

Yes for sure. I don’t know how I think of the program because it hasn’t seemed to have increased the English fluency of Japanese people, although it also appears that wasn’t actually the aim, rather increasing opportunities for Japanese people to interact with non-Japanese… anyway, it’s certainly helped this non-Japanese interact with Japanese people :)
