A smart move :) the autumn leaves will be out by then and you shouldn’t have to worry about snow! I’ll be in Yamagata city next week, a promotion event for the prefecture!
* I'm never sure how much is visible to people who haven't got a basic free membership, but the free is quite good enough for me and Yamap don't spam badly. The subscription does let you do considerably more but I decided not to pay and if required leech of the wife's sub
Thanks Francis! I used YAMAP for this hike, I use it for all my hikes. I learned its value quite early on by trying to find trailheads without it! I had the paid version when I was able to go out more regularly, I think it is worth it. It’s a real hassle to have to delete and download the maps each time with the free version, and they give you a lot more stuff like a warning when you’re going off trail and other detailed information from your hike.
That's a very nice trail. By the way, at the end of October I'm traveling to Yamagata on assignment. I hope it won't be too cold.
It’s great! A very short hike but a lot of fun. Yamagata City? It won’t be too cold, usually November/ December is when it gets really cold.
Yeah. Originally, I had to go in January but I was supposed to go in January but I convinced my boss to send me earlier.

Nice Satoyama. And easily visible in Yamap*, which is my preferred way to find mountain trails - https://yamap.com/maps/27145/trails
